Dragon Info
Darkling Dawn now uses two sets of images, so two
slightly differing breeds of dragons can hatch. The first is a normal Pernese
dragon, sans headknobs, but otherwise looks like a normal Old World dragon. The
newer breed has several small differences; mainly, a pair of long,
backward-sweeping horns, and more pawlike feet.
Most clutches at
Darkling Dawn will feature one of these two types of dragons. However, if the
parents are sufficiently structurally different from the norm, new types of
dragons may appear. (I'll draw new, unique images for the clutch, or have the
owner of one of the parents do so.)
The dragon's names and colors are
mostly dependent upon the origin of their parents. Old World dragons would have
the standard five colors with a chance of a white or other rare, while Alskyrian
dragons would have those nine colors. If the parents use dynastic endings or
other patterns for their names, the children will probably do the same. If the
parents had magic or other special abilities, the children will probably inherit
that as well.
Crossbreeds will have colors and names from both parents'
origin, and these colors will not be considered rare unless they are not normal
for either parents. (i.e. A Danachian-Pernese purple would have the same ranking
as a full Danachian, above a blue and below a brown/copper.)
Most dragons
will bond with someone of their own gender, if they do bond, but it's not
uncommon for them to pick a rider of the opposite gender. They may also decide
not to bond, and instead go to another Weyr or Dragonry to live. Some dragons
may also bond to a sibling (or two), and two dragons may bond to the same
candidate. These instances are much rarer, though.
