Aoaoth's Flight
[Note: This flight
happened at Starburst Weyr but Aoaoth decided to lay her eggs at Darkling Dawn
due to the upcoming Spring Frenzy at Starburst. Also, the males in this flight
are all my own, Aoaoth wanted Nunkith to have a challenge in this
flight.]
When the time came for Aoaoth to rise, many male dragons began
to notice, including some of the sparkling Flurry dragons and a couple of normal
colours as well. Blue Nunkith was among them, perhaps not as handsome as some
other blues and browns, but still there, and Aoaoth admired that in
him.
Tristya, she called out, her eyes as fiery as the Red Star.
The time is
now for me to rise!
Immediately the greenrider responded to her dragon.
Blood only!
I’m rounding up the children and H’ran. Choose well!
There was a mischevious smile in
the green’s eyes. That shouldn’t be a problem, you can rest
assured.
Tristya gathered her children and searched
intentively for something to keep the four occupied while Aoaoth struck down and
blooded her second kill. After about five more, she rose into the sky, glowing
and with flaming desire to get away from those males.
The two Flurry males
she recognized as blue horned Zevziic and siamese silver blue Opivith. Fine
young males, but could they catch her? Maybe, she thought as her eyes probed the
rest of the males. Zevziic was handsome but he would have to win her.
The
other males, as she looked them over, were blue, blue and brown. She identified
them quickly as they blooded their last kills - bondless blue Brith, brown Polth
bonded to another dragon, and blue Nunkith. A tinge of passionate purple swirled
into her fiery eyes, but it was overshadowed by her harsh bugle and her racing
up into the skies.
Brith was fast, zipping after her in a multitude of
well-planned curves. His well-developed intellect was helping him gain on the
green, while Aoaoth despaired somewhat that she would not be caught by he who
she most desired. Suddenly she felt a shadow on her back, and seeing Opivith
descend from above at increasing speed, she dropped in altitude and banked
sharply to the right. Unable to stop, Brith and Opivith collided, dropping them
out of the flight.
Thought you were smarter, huh
Brith? she
taunted, not looking as she sped to the east. An abrupt collision with Polth
left the brown stunned and confused while Aoaoth made a
getaway.
Well, that was close... she murmured as Polth dropped
dizzily to the ground.
Nunkith was meanwhile avoiding the range of Zevziic,
who intimidated him a little with those shining ivory horns of his. Despairing
that Aoaoth would not love him, Nunkith didn’t notice when Zevziic made his
move, headbutting his chest and sending him reeling backward and out of
sight.
Nunkith! screeched Aoaoth, barreling toward the younger Flurry
blue and headbutting him with all her strength in the chest.
You menace!
You hurt him!
Patience! begged Zevziic, taking several blows and scratches.
I only
wanted...
I know what you wanted, Aoaoth growled, backing up a bit.
You wanted me
so much that you hurt my brother! I cannot possibly fly
now!
Zevziic’s eyes flashed and he flew towards the
green, claws brandished and ready to catch his prize.
He never made it to
Aoaoth’s side. In fact, the last thing he saw was a blue body before his and
then he was on the ground, his rider just arrived as he’d discovered his dragon
chasing without his permission.
Back in the skies above, green like the lush
grass and blue like the sky reflected in a stream were brought together once
more, the first time since they hatched. Meanwhile, Tristya had come out with
her family to watch the glorious sight.
Well that settles it, you got the
one you planned. Tristya said to her dragon as she looked
on.
Wonder
if they’d call our children inbred, brother? queried Aoaoth in her
bliss.
Not
inbred, Aoaoth, just unique. And think of our white mother. I have a feeling
she’ll be contributing to our children...
Joy.
