Avearith's (and Sorai-Kelam's) Flight
It was late into a cool winter evening that Avearith
decided she ought to rise. Her clouded rainbow hide shimmered brighter
than usual and she admired herself in a mirror, twisting this way and
that. Sorai, lounging on a pile of pillows, watched her bond with some
amusement. She, herself, had been feeling much the same way, although
Senaerran dragons didn't handle things quite the way that Avearith's kind were
predicted to.
They were at their castle in Senaerra, a structure that was
as elegant as it was opulent, constructed of marble and glass, gems and precious
metal. Avearith finally stepped out onto one of the ledges, her talons
clicking softly as she approached the edge. With a deep breath, she
launched herself from it, winging high into the sky; accustomed as she was to
eating carefully prepared food, the idea of blooding from a filthy, living beast
seemed abhorrent ... what dragon, so nobly kept, would do such a
thing?
Not Hyioshisan, the dark starry blue companion of Miro-syaess; he
had watched the rainbow female from afar and once she made her move, he made
his, leaping into the sky and fanning out his dark blue wings, sparred with
stars. He blended in to the star-laden night sky, sweeping after Avearith
as silently as the night-owl.
Below, in their private quarters, Miro and
Sorai simply watched and waited, still as statues. Though they felt the
heated rush of emotion that their bonds did, they were royalty and required to
maintain their cool-headedness until it couldn't be held any longer. So,
they watched and waited, their eyes locked on the dance in the skies
above.
Avearith wasn't much of a fighter and her endurance, given her
size, was unremarkable. For the much larger Hyio', she was a fairly easy
catch early on and she went willingly with the star-marked blue. However,
he was unsatisfied and pumped his wings to gain even more altitude, before
spiralling downward, back to the palace ledges. There, their mating
continued long into the night until early morning, when, at last, they were able
to sleep. In the quarters next door, Miro and Sorai were in much the same
situation, their patience having broken and their emotions having taken
over. And afterward, they slept, coiled together as they often
did.
