Clutches 14 & 15--Jubilerth
and Quartzeth;
Sereuxth and Shyam
| The sun beat down overwhelmingly hot over Darkling Dawn.
It was the middle of summer, the sky was bright and completely empty of clouds.
It was a very nice, very hot, day.
It
was also the day Jubilerth's eggs began to hatch.
The red-green-silver-gold
dragoness shifted her weight lazily. Her tail flicked tiny peices of sand over
her eggs, and it wasn't until then that she noticed several of the largest ones
wiggling back and forth slightly. Jubilerth blinked, then began to hum
cheerfully, calling to her rider and mate. My eggs are hatching!
The stands were filled and the candidates filed in
as the mottled eggs continued to rock back and forth. Several people shifted
uncomfortably from the heat radiating from the sand.
Suddenly, with a loud,
ringing crash, the first egg split down its middle. A large green climbed from
the shell, glancing around the hatching sands coolly. She looked up at her
mother, and said, I'm not going to bond today. M'name's
Jueruth. I'll be going to
Calyeni Caverns. She said simply, then strolled off the sands towards
the kitchens.
The next two eggs hatched as one, spilling a large brown and a
blue-sized bright orange dragon onto the sands. The hatchlings looked at one
another, and hissed at their sibling, bristling. Their mother called them to
attention before they could properly fight, and the brown reluctantly looked
away, towards the four candidates gathered there. With a contemptuous snort, he
said, None of them
are good enough for me, Feargth. I'll find my own bond at
Ryslen. The brown turned and walked to the kitchens without
another word.
His orange sister growled at him as he left and studied the
candidates in front of her. None of them are my chosen, either. Sorry. My name's
Selvaggioth. I think I'll visit
Draco's Inferno first. The female orange chased after her brother, obviously
intending to finish their earlier fight, but was quickly distracted by the
promise of food.
Another smallish egg cracked, revealing a bright green
muzzle. The dragon snorted as it struggled out of its shell, eventually
revealing a body that faded to blue at the tail. It spread green-blue wings
proudly as it pranced over the sands. My name's Finomkodoth. A definitely male voice said in an arrogant tone.
I
believe
I'll see
what
Shivran Aerd's like. See
ya.
With a smirk, the blended
green-blue trotted off the sands to get his food.
The candidate shifted their
feet uncomfortably as another egg hatched, spilling a small, bright green
dragoness onto the sands. She jumped up, spitting sand from her mouth, and
huffed. Hi! She said cheerfully to anyone with any amount of telepathic ability.
I'm
Sastath. Umm, what am I supposed to do now?
Bond? But, well, what if I don't want to bond? I mean, not that there's anything
wrong with any of you, of course, This she said while facing the assembled candidates,
But, well, I just
don't see the point. What? Oh, okay then. I think I'll go
to...Moire Ytiam. Is that a good choice? I hope so,
I'd hate to end up at a really yucky place-Oh, sorry? Food!?
Where? Someone finally directed
the talkactive green towards the kitchens, and she ran off eagerly, chattering
all the way.
A medium-sized egg cracked, and a bright blue tail appeared. The
rest of the egg fell apart, revealing a blue dragon standing on his head. As it
was rather hard to hold this position for very long, he fell over backwards,
causing several people to chuckle.
He jumped up, shaking his head, and glared
at them. What're you
laughing at? After being
prompted, he looked back to the candidates and sighed. Oh, fine then. But I don't want to
bond! Just me, myself, and I, all the time! I'm Aradath. Shivran
Aerd, here I come!
The blue dragonet raced off the sands, but he
slipped halfway there and fell on his tail. With a yelp, he jumped up, and
glared at everyone again, before slinking off to the kitchens.
One of the
larger eggs from Jubilerth's clutch began to rock furiously, and it finally
broke to reveal a pale blue dragon with glimmering golden wings. The blue-gold
looked around lazily, and turned to his mother. I am called
Szuletoth. I will go to
Moire
Ytiam. The quiet blue strode quickly off the sands as two eggs
cracked open behind him.
A small green dragon crawled out of her egg,
followed by a blue dragon whose wings were marked with paler blue and gold,
almost like his earlier sibling's. The female green spread her own wings wide,
revealing their green and red membranes. They both looked at the candidates, but
unlike the rest of their siblings, they went right up to two of them.
You're just
right for me.
The green green-red said to Teresa.
My name is
Scuolath, and I'm
yours!
Her brother was
sharing a similar conversation with Arthur. Heya, Arthur. Do you think you could
draw me?
Arthur smiled down at the blue blue-gold. "Maybe,
Fabricath."
The last egg cracked open, revealing a
medium-sized female brown. She wasted no time dallying, and went straight to
Chyssen, and butted her head against the girl's side.
Come on, Chyssen,
I'm hungry. My name's Hildemeceth, won't you feed me
now?
Chyssen obliged happily,
following her brown dragoness to the kitchens. Jubilerth got up and stretched,
glad to be able to leave the sands after so long. The spectators began to get up
and head to the post-hatching feast that would surely be ready soon.
The last
candidate, Mathom, looked slightly disappointed that there were no eggs left. He
turned to leave with everyone else, but a mottled green and silver tail snaked
in front of him, blocking his path. The other mother on the sands, Green-Silver
Sereuxth, growled slightly as the boy began to back away from her cautiously.
"Umm..." He said, unsure of what he'd done wrong.
His question was answered
by the appearance of a blended white and blue dragonet, who suddenly poked his
head out from underneath his mother's wing. Ah, M'thom! There you are! You weren't going to leave me, Leisgth, behind, were you?
The hatchling asked accusingly.
M'thom grinned. "No, of course not. Let's go eat with the others, eh,
Leisgth?"
The blue-white agreed readily, and the last candidate headed to the
kitchens with his new bond.
Several people slunk back to their seats when the
word got around that Sereuxth's clutch was hatching. Within this time, two more
eggs had hatched, spilling a blended dragon of light and dark blue coloring and
a silver-winged green onto the sands. The hatchlings looked at each other
fondly. My name
is
Rinanth. What about you, bondmine? The blended blue asked.
The green-silver answered
shyly. Coilleth. Can we
go to
Dou
Pas River Denu after we
eat?
Rinanth crooned at his
bond. Sure, Coilleth.
The next egg cracked open as the bonded hatchlings
exited the sands, and a large brown emerged from the off-white shell. He looked
around, shaking sand from his hide, and looked up at his green-silver mother.
My name's
Foldelesth. I think
Draco's Inferno is the place for me, if that's
alright with you all?
The
last two eggs revealed a pair of dark-colored dragons. The first was a tiny
black, who quickly revealed his name as Ejjelith. He decided to go to Calyeni Caverns.
The other dragon was a slightly larger
silver-black. He flicked his tail impatiently as his brother decided on his new
home. And my name is
Sarlo'Alakuth. I'm going to
Ryslen.
The silver-black strolled slowly off the sands as
the stands emptied for the second
time.
