Clutches 21 & 22--Myzylyth
and Pinudath;
Mixath and Tausignth
| The eggs started to rock in the dead of night.
Fortunately, the Alskyran-descended sister clutches had the good sense to wait
until morning to actually begin hatching, and did not force their riders- or
caretakers-to-be to rush out of bed and to the hatching sands as several
clutches before them had. In fact, nobody noticed the slight motion of the eggs
until the mothers, green sisters, awoke early in the morning and noticed the
majority of the eggs were wriggling slightly.
Myzylyth was the first to
notice, and crooned in relief as she alerted her mate, and in turn, the rest of
the weyr. Her sister's commotion was not lost on Myxath; she too had seen the
wriggling eggs and realized the signifigance of the occasion.
By this time, a
fair portion of the dragonry was already up, but some of the heavier sleeping
candidates were rudely awakened as they were told to get down to the hatching
sands or risk missing Impressing.
By the time the last of the candidates
arrived on the sands, at least six dragonets had already hatched and were
wandering aimlessly around the hatching cavern, apparently in no great hurry to
bond. These hatchlings, all adorned with tiny horned nubs true to their Alskyran
heritage, came in a rainbow of colors.
Two large blues were squabbling
good-naturedly, but they soon broke apart, growing bored with their game. The
first, far darker than the other-but only because the other was exceptionally
pale-gave a cursory glance at the assembled candidates, but he did not seem
impressed. He turned instead to his parents, saying, I'm Jerhaith. Can I go to
Enzan
Shi? He
asked, and, hearing no protests, headed eagerly towards the kitchens.
His
paler sister followed suit. I'm Yoshyth. Umm...I'll go to
Starburst Weyr. I think. Is that
alright?
A smallish sized
silver broke away from the group of hatchlings next, her light, almost
white-looking hide glittering. With a spirited toss of her head, she too decided
to stay unbonded. I'll go to Sunstone Weyr
with my parents. She told anyone who cared to listen. My name is
Taeth.
Three dragons were left from the already-hatched
eggs, a bright purple and two greens. The larger of the greens moved first, and
she turned to her parents. I'm Neth. My bond's not here yet, so I'll
wait at Kshau Protectorate. She said simply before dashing off to the kitchens to
eat.
The other green, her hide a dark forest green, moved unerringly to one
of the female candidates. Pandora was the
first candidate to bond today, and she smiled as she lead her green
Euth to
the kitchens.
The purple dragoness had watched curiously as one of her
sisters bonded and the other chose not to. Once they had both left, and she was
the only hatchling on the sands, she stood up and walked towards the candidates.
The females watched the hatchling hopefully, while the males, for the most part,
were disinterested. The purple stopped in front of one of the girls, and crooned
at her chosen. I
like you, Taylor. Will you be my rider? I am
Avodoth, your
dragon!
More eggs were
cracking now, and one of the larger ones broke apart, revealing the shiny hide
of a bronze. The large dragon broke free of its shell and turned bright
rainbow-colored eyes to its parents. My name's Buyuth. The female bronze told them. I think I'll live at
Moire
Protectorate, 'kay?
The bronze strolled idly off the sands as three more
eggs hatched at once, spilling a mid-sized cream female and two more blues onto
the sands. The cream shook her head daintily and walked over to one of the
female candidates, one who had stood for several clutches already
unsuccessfully. Don't worry, Kaili, the cream dragoness said. I'm here now. I'm
Lyjerth.
Once their larger sister had bonded, the two small
blues stepped forward. The first was a dark blue male who rushed straight to
Donny, and declared himself to be Yenoth. The other blue dragon, a female with a bright blue
hide, walked instead to Lyeardi.
Can I be your
dragon, Lyeardi? I promise I won't be trouble. I'm Apeith. The two had just begun to leave the sands when they
were stopped by a very insistent mental shout.
Wait! Wait for me! My name's
Ulodith, and I want to bond you too,
Lyeardi! After all, life would be no fun
with just Apeith for company. He
said with a mischeivous tone. Apeith pouted and stuck her tongue out at her
cousin, but otherwise made no protest to the male's presence.
A fiery red
male hatched and quickly picked out Celio as his
rider. The young man pronounced his dragon's name, Anemth, and they left the sands to eat.
Another dark green
hatched, this one a male by the name of Elnith.
I'm going to
Kshau
Protectorate! He
exclaimed excitedly before being directed to the kitchens.
A red and brown
hatched at nearly the same instant, and they fell to the ground in a heap. The
red gasped as his larger sibling climbed off of him and shook himself off. They
both stared at the assembled candidates. The red did not seem particularly
interested, but the brown's eyes lit up as he caught sight of Korin, and he
quickly bonded to the boy. My name's Thjith. He explained before begging to be
fed.
Huh. The
red said sedately as he watched this. Well, I'm not going to bond. 'Least not yet, anyway. I'm
Dhreejith, if anyone wants to find me, I'll
be at Star City Dragonry. He said with a gaping draconic
smile.
Thardryn was the next candidate to bond, and he was all but
dragged off the sands by his large red Lhath as
the last two eggs hatched at once. A glittering gold and a much darker purple
fell to the ground. The gold reacted first, and once she had finished cleaning
sand from her still-wet, glittery hide, she strode purposefully to the
candidates. She paused suddenly, and her rainbow eyes met those of one of the
candidates. Ayra seemed shocked as she bonded the young gold female, who told
her that she was named Oleith. Imperiously, she butted her head against her
rider-to-be's side and told her she was hungry.
The dark purple female had
not moved, and was simply laying in the sand. Her mother, Myzylyth, nuzzled her
curiously. She objected to the disturbance immediately. Go 'way, I don't wanna get up, I'm
comfy here. No, I don't care about the candidates, I don't wanna bond, just let
me sleep, okay? She heaved a
giant mental sigh. Oh, alright, fine then. I'll go to
Enzan
Shi. Are you happy now? She grumbled. My name's Lylhith. She muttered as she got up and walked to the
kitchens.
Once the crowds were sure that there were no hidden eggs or extra
dragons, an all-too-common occurence at Darkling Dawn, they began to leave. The
extra candidates who had not bonded this time left the sands in rejection, but
they were assured that there were always more eggs on the sands and they would
have their
chance.
