Clutch 34--Sayienth and Drtwi'Suah
There was lots of muttering in the weeks before the hatching of Sayienth's clutch, and people were starting to complain about the clutch taking so long. The candidates, likewise, were beginning to fret about ever bonding dragons. All of this did nothing for the clutch mother's nerves, which were beginning to fray as she waited anxiously for her eggs to show signs of life.
"It's okay, Sayienth. It's far from the first time the eggs have been awhile in hatching. They're fine." Viol reassured her clouded bond.
Sayienth just rumbled something worriedly in reply, but they were both startled when one of the creamy eggs gave a sudden lurch. The others started to quiver, and both dragon and rider heaved a sigh of relief.
Finally!
The candidates filed into the cavern as the eggs continued to rock. Finally, the first egg cracked down the middle and fell apart, leaving a small green hatchling in its place. She blinked, stood up, and shook loose sand from her clouded hide, and then turned towards the gathered candidates. She moved a bit clumsily, but it was clear that she would be quite a graceful dragoness once she grew up. She went to
Nytaphis, and stared up at him with what was almost a flirtacious tilt of her head. Nytaphis, dear, aren't I beautiful? Between the two of us, there's no one who'll be able to resist our charms! The green dragon purred.
The bronze dragon grinned proudly.
Nytyr'Sadr! You're absolutely right! He likely would have started to preen, but Nytyr's urgent hunger drove him off the sands.
Meanwhile, two more eggs had hatched, one revealing a pale, rainbow-clouded dragon, the other, a blue and purple-marked black with cloudy markings.
They both approached the candidates as one, though their choices were very different. The rainbow-colored female searched the faces of the approaching candidates until her eyes fell on
Belladonna, and she crooned. She approached the young woman, who didn't seem to notice her, until she butted her head up against her side. Belladonna gasped, reaching out to feel what had bumped against her, and her arms clasped around the dragon's neck, and crooned again encouragingly. My name's Betyr'Sadr, Mine. Don't worry, I'm more than colorful enough for you. That made the blind girl laugh as she let Betyr lead her to the kitchens.
The other dragon watched his sister's Impression passively, but he didn't seem particularly interested in a bond of his own. He glanced up at his father, (who shared his coloring, if not his cloudy pattern) and said,
I don't think there's anyone here for me. I guess I'm not going to bond.
This caused a bit of shuffling about until
Touketsu stepped forward to claim the hatchling. "You can come back to Draco's Inferno Weyr with me then, if you'd like." The hybrid catdragon offered.
The night-colored hatchling studied him for a moment, then nodded, satisfied.
You'll do. I will be Totyr'Sadr, then.
Content, Touketsu lead his new charge off to the kitchens to feed.
Another egg began to crack, and a red paw clawed its way out of the shell, followed by the head and shoulders of a red male with cloudy marking like his mother. He was obviously struggling to get out of the egg, until it tipped over onto its side and fell apart, completing the job for him.
Ah, there we go. Much better. He said, stretching his wings in relief. The candidates looked hopefully at him, but the red ignored them completely, and instead turned to his mother. I want to go home with you! Can I do that?
Sayienth and her rider nodded, ushering the hatchling off to the kitchens to be fed. He will be Satyr'Sadr, then. Sayienth commented as he disappeared from the sands.
A black dragon had hatched unnoticed, but he seemed to be having a fine time sneaking up behind one of the candidates.
Chaos never even noticed the hatchling behind him, until the black barrelled into his legs with a squeal. The young man went down with a grunt, the hatchling sprawled out on top of him. Wee! Were you scared, Chaos? I bet I surprised you, huh?
"You sure did,
Chatyr'Sadr..." Chaos groaned from the ground, earning giggles from some of the surrounding candidates.
The next egg revealed a dainty cloudy marked purple, who distinguished herself first by choosing to talk aloud instead of telepathically.
"Carramba High sounds interesting, and I'll bet I'm good with kids. Can I help you out when I'm older? Oh, by the way, I'm Lityr'Sadr." The dragon said quickly to Lienda, a toothy grin on her face.
Lienda paused, overwhelmed at first by the enthusiastic dragon, but recovered quickly with a smile. "Sure you can, Lityr. Let's get you some food for now, though." Lityr heartily agreed.
Six candidates were left watching the remaining two eggs nervously, some of them impatiently. They quivered and broke apart at once, revealing a brown and a blue. The brown jumped up and headed straight to
August. 'Bout time you Impressed, huh? But never mind, I'm here now, and I'm Autyr'Sadr. I'm also quite hungry, incidentally.
The blue was, surprisingly, more sedate than his brown brother, and slunk over to
Narto. He eyed the wolf-shifter, apparently sizing him up, but the candidate seemed to meet whatever expectations the hatchling had. My name is Natyr'Sadr. Um...I'd like some food now, if you don't mind.
Narto nodded, starting to smile as he lead the young blue away to get him food, and another hatching (finally) was over.
