Clutch 35--Kertakth and Resanith
| | Darkling Dawn had been swelteringly hot for the past few
weeks, so a sudden rush of storms was considered a relief among the riders.
Except for A'ra, anyway. "I think I preferred the hot weather to being
constantly drenched." The Weyrleader muttered as he entered the Hatching Cavern
from outside, shaking his head and sending water droplets flying everywhere from
his dripping hair. "Bah. I happen to like rain." Rahel pointed out to him,
her friend Ean seated beside her. There was a sudden flash and quickly following
peal of thunder from outside where the storm raged on. "And the lightning's
cool, too. Ooh, that was a nice one!" Ean piped up from his position by the
outside entrance, trying to see outside to watch the lightning. A'ra ignored
them, as his attention was drawn towards the dragon mothers on the sands. They
were all looking rather tense as they curled about their eggs, but Kertakth most
of all. A small surprise, since hers were the eggs that were rocking in the
traditional signs of an imminent Hatching. A'ra took his seat beside the
Weyrwoman, watching as the candidates were brought in (taking undue satisfaction
in the fact that many of them were was wet as he was). There was a large
range of candidates standing this time around, from regular humans to elves and
mages, to wolves (of both the anthropomorphic and shifter varieties) to aliens.
And they all looked nervous as they approached the eggs, well aware that some of
them would bond today and others would not. The first egg cracked,
accompanied by a crash of thunder. The emerging hatchling was a slender and
pretty, though relatively large, purple, which should have surprised no one.
These dragons were part-alskyran and danachian, after all. It was after she
climbed out of her shell, and spread her wings that anyone was surprised. In
stark contrast to her vibrant purple hide, her wingsails were a milky cream
shade. Her mother hummed approvingly and gently nudged her firstborn daughter
towards the candidates. That was all the prompting the hatchling needed, for she
stumbled straight over to Lydian. The
girl looked quite happy-and relieved-to have finally Impressed at last.
"Rasiyeth, you're finally here!" Meanwhile, another two eggs
had cracked open at once, spilling a dark brown dragon onto the sands, as well
as a second purple (Though unfortunately, this one didn't feature her sister's
two-toned wings). The brown got up, shaking himself off, and then he strode
confidently over to Mekeo. It
wasn't until then that he surprised everyone by spreading his wings wide,
proudly, to display their dark
silver membranes. Mekeo! I can help you fight off the
undead
things in your home! Really, I can! My name is Resnath. The purple dragon sniffed haughtily, clearly
umimpressed by her brother's showing off. Her manner completely changed,
however, when she caught the eye of one of the girls standing as a candidate.
The purple crooned and and rubbed her head against Midshad's leg,
almost cat-like. Midshad! I am Serath, and I will bond you and be your
dragon, if you'll let me. Think what new worlds we can discover
together! Midshad was every bit
as enthusiastic as her new dragon. A particularly large egg began cracking,
and a long tail appeared from one end, as the hatchling appeared to be trying to
break out of the egg backwards. Silvered hindquarters appeared, followed by
overlarge wings, and finally, the head and shoulders of the dragon. She was a
lithe and muscular female silver, and she certainly seemed to know her mind, for
she made her way straight to the mottled white ghost, Bleach. She
stood gazing up at her bond with loving eyes. Bleach? I think I like that name.
Much better than Victoria. My name is Sheyenth. Another two eggs were hatching now, revealing the
forms of a tiny green hatchling and a much larger copper. The green female
ignored her sibling, going to Jasna and
crooning happily. You and I are good together, are we not? I am
Kesath, and you are mine.
Far apart from his
self-assured sister, the copper looked lost and helpless, glancing about him.
Finally, he seemed to gather the courage to approach the candidates, and he soon
stopped at Terriel's feet. The only thing he said was, My name is
Realenth. T'riel was leading his dragon to the kitchens to be
fed, when they were interrupted by a second dragon. Wait! Wait for me. Dang it,
Realenth, don't keep him all to yourself. This new dragon said, making his clumsily, but quickly
as he could, across the hatching sands to the rider and dragon. Realenth looked
distressed and confused at the other dragon's reprimand, his eyes swirling with
worried yellow. The dragon, a rather small blue, gaped his jaw in a grin at
T'riel. Hi. My name
is Tabuth, and I'd like to bond to you too,
if you don't mind. T'riel
glanced between the two dragons. "I...guess not. Welcome to the group, Tabuth."
Another large egg-one of the largest of the clutch-began rocking with extra
vigor, and the candidates watched it hopefully. What emerged was not one, but
two dragons! The first was a silver, slightly smaller than his brother, a black.
The silver dragon gained his feet first, and kindly helped his brother before
announcing his decision to everyone in the Dragonry. My name is
Tacitth, and my brother here is
Rakertth. I've decided I'm not going to
bond, so I'll go to Moire Ytiam. He stated cheerfully. The black paused thoughtfully
after his twin left, pondering what he was going to do. My bond is not here either. However,
I'd prefer to stay here, and perhaps wait for them to find
me. He announced. With that,
Rakertth went to join his brother and other siblings in the kitchens. A'ra
watched the black leave worriedly. "That's odd. We usually don't have unbonded
dragons deciding to stick around like that." Rahel just shrugged. "But it's
not unheard of, is it? He looks perfectly content to me." A'ra couldn't
really disagree with that, so he fell silent as more eggs began to crack. A
blue, green, and cream all hatched in quick succession, though only one of them
decided to take a bond. Zeek! The hyper-active blue bounced to his rider.
I'm
Neayeth, and I'm bonding you, so we'll
aaaallways be together. Come on, let's go to the kitchens, I'm hungry. I'm
practically starving! Zeek
hurried to keep up with his talkactive dragon, who continued to chatter on all
the way to the kitchens. The green calmly stated her name, Kaktorith, and
that she was choosing not to bond. Shortly after, she was on her way to the
kitchens, after which she would be taken to Draco's Inferno Weyr. The cream dragon was not so sedate. In fact, she
looked rather disturbed, looking for someone who clearly wasn't there.
Where is she? Umm,
okay...Apparently talking to
herself. But she noticed everyone watching her, and made up her mind.
My bond doesn't seem
to be here. She stated blithely.
I guess I'll stay
here and wait for her to arrive, then. I'm Keirath. The last egg hatched suddenly, without warning,
spilling a large, dark green onto the sands. The hatchling stood up, shaking the
sand off itself like a dog, and looked around briefly. However, it barely gave a
glance to the remaining candidates, and instead turned to its parents, and the
Weyrleaders. It stated, in a masculine tone, I'm Salyeth, and I think I'd like to stick
around here too. Hope this place doesn't get too boring, too
fast. He said lightly, and left.
A'ra was frowning again at the unbonded dragons, but his attention was
dragged away by Rahel, who pointed outside. He started, surprised. The storm had
stopped some time ago without his realizing. And now the Hatching was over as
well.
