Clutch 36--Jeystith and Ennath
Jeystith's clutch began to hatch just a few days after Kertakth's had. Not a big surprise to anyone, since they had flown within days of each as well. The candidates were dutifully gathered, many leftovers from the previous clutch, and a few just brought in. Jeystith glanced over them and nodded approvingly.
And then the first egg hatched.
The shell cracked, until finally, a mottled blue tail appeared, quickly followed by the rest of the dragonet as the shell fell apart completely. The hatchling was a pretty, watery blue, with wingsails of a deeper blue. The crowd murmured apprecatively as the dragoness moved towards one of the candidates.
Winter Rose is your name? I am Jennasth, and you are mine now, forever.
Two more eggs had hatched as Jennasth was Impressing, and they revealed a dainty earth-winged green and a female fire, glistening in the sunlight, due to the shimmering sheen of her hide. The earth-winged green moved first, approaching the female candidate
Lesla. I'm Neyath, Lesla! I think we should stick around here for awhile, though. Let's not leave yet. Lesla, thinking back to how T'riel had Impressed two dragons, shrugged and agreed.
The shimmering fire ignored the candidates, instead making sure her hide was free from any dirt or grime. Finally, her parents got impatient, so she finally said,
I'm not interested in Impressing anyone here. Send me wherever you will. My name's Janarth. She strutted off the sands as her parents decided she would go to a place called Mindspace.
Two other dragons soon chose to go unbonded as well. The next egg to hatch revealed a shimmering twilight-colored male, and soon after a dawn-winged blue followed.
I am called Farheith, and I will go to Moire Ytiam. The twilight stated.
The blue-dawn was next, stating similiarly,
And my name is Mennath. My bonded is not here either, so I think I will go to Draco's Inferno Weyr.
Another egg hatched as those two left, and the shell cracked apart to reveal twin dragons. The slightly smaller female was colored in what could only be called day, and her hide glistened with the shimmer effect of her mother. Her larger brother was as dark as she was light, with shimmering patterns laid over his blue-black hide. The night male didn't seem particularly interested in the candidates, seemingly aloof and uninterested. All he gave was his name,
I'm Burrakith, and then he wandered off to the kitchens. With a shrug, his parents assumed he had chosen to stay at Darkling Dawn, and thought no more of it.
On the other hand, the shimmer day hatchling crooned plaintively before making her way to where
Lesla and Neyath stood to the side of the other candidates. She looked at Lesla and crooned again, pleased. Lesla! And Neyath! My name is Karrubith!
From a smallish egg appeared a shimmering brown-grey-green dragonet, and plopped to the ground as her shell fell apart. She blinked and looked around her for a moment, then she crooned, as it appeared she had found her bond, and began to walk to
Sander. Sander! From now on, you are mine. And I will be your Leyelisth. She nudged his side with her head fondly, and then insisted that they go to the kitchens to eat.
The last three eggs started cracking open at once, as though the dragons inside were trying to race each other to hatch. From the first appeared a pretty little forest-colored dragoness, wingsails colored an exceptionally bright green. The other eggs hatched into an earth-winged brown male and a normal twilight. The forest-green strutted about the sands, obviously showing off and not too interested in the remaining candidates. Finally, her parents managed to get her name and destination out of her.
I am Einisth! And I choose to go to Moire Ytiam!
The other two dragons appeared rather less impressed with their show-off sister. The twilight male slunk off and sat at
Drown's feet, who glanced down at him with interest. "Hey, Carskeith, why don't we get something to eat?" She asked her young bond.
The twilight nodded thoughtfully.
That sounds good, I'm getting hungry. Carskeith agreed.
Finally, only the brown-earth was left, and if he was perturbed at the much-diminished choice of candidates, he did not show it. He just gave a shrug and turned away from the two remaining hopeful candidates.
My name is Eanitith, and I think I will go to Mindspace, if that's alright.
His parents and the Weyrleaders agreed, and the brown-earth went off to join his siblings in the kitchens as the Hatching ended.
